Recreation Services
New Star’s Recreation Services are contracted through Special Recreation Services to provide assessment, planning, development, and facilitation of therapeutic recreation programs. All programs are designed to meet the varied needs of persons with intellectual disabilities.
Activities are scheduled either weekly, or as a special event. Special event activities are usually scheduled once per year, and there are different special events per session. Weekly activities are ongoing throughout the year, but may vary during each session. Sessions are generally 8 or 10 weeks, and there are 4 sessions per year.
Cooperative members of Special Recreation Services include the Calumet Memorial, and Riverdale Park Districts, as well as the Village of South Holland Department of Recreational Services. We also work in cooperation with the Maywood Park District, Broadview Park District, and the surrounding communities.
Programs provided by Special Recreation Services include Special Olympics, community-based therapeutic activities, leisure education, special events, day and overnight trips, sports, as well as, summer camps for children.
